Past Presidents' Service Award
The Past Presidents’ Service Award was created in 1987 by the SRU Alumni Association. This award recognizes the achievements of individuals working on behalf of the Alumni Association to advance the mission of the University. The award honors alumni and friends who have demonstrated extraordinary service through long-term volunteer activities within the broad spectrum of alumni activities. This award is presented annually at the Distinguished Alumni Awards Reception in October. The selected candidate must be present to receive the award.
Criteria for Nomination
Individuals may be recognized for:
- Extraordinary service to Slippery Rock through alumni organizations, regional programs, class programs, and other related groups
- Leadership roles assumed through SRUAA; achievements in developing and enhancing alumni-related activities
- Exceptional contributions of time and expertise, as a part of his or her volunteer service on behalf of SRUAA
- Service in alumni programs, on advisory committees and through efforts made to ensure the welfare of the institution.
Additional Information
To submit a candidate for consideration, please detail (in two pages or less) the nominee’s qualifications for this award, based on the aforementioned criteria required for the award.
A maximum of five (5) individuals may submit letters of support for the nomination. Each letter should be no more than two pages in length and should address different areas listed on the criteria. Supporting letters may be included in this packet or arrive under separate cover.
Nominations may be made by anyone other than the nominee.
The selection of the recipient is made by the Past President’s Advisory Committee and approved by the Alumni Association Board of Directors.

Definitions
Personal and Professional Achievement: Use of traditional or innovative approaches in enhancing personal and professional growth. Other factors include personal recognition received, the balance between personal and career movement and development, professional recognition, professional accomplishments and significant contributions to nominee’s profession.
Community Service: Scope and breadth of service nominee has provided; the impact of his/her actions in the community in a variety of service initiatives.
University Service: Nominee’s support of University initiatives, involvement in University programs and/or service on University boards, committees or project teams.
Philanthropy: Annual and lifetime giving to Slippery Rock University.
